The Foundation presented A Celebration of Mstislav Rostropovich at a black-tie fete at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in September 1993. It bestowed on the Maestro a special award recognizing his outstanding contributions to cultural understanding between the United States and the Russian Federation.
Included on the program was a concert with performances by such outstanding artists as Evgeny Kissin, Carter Brey, Wu Han, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, and members of the National Symphony Orchestra.
A medal was struck to honor the occasion, and the presentation was made by Vladimir Petrovich Lukin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, and The Honorable Howard H. Baker, Jr.
