| A Celebration of Van Cliburn took place in the Lisner Auditorium of the George Washington University in September 1994. The Honorable James W. Symington and Pierre Salinger acted as co-hosts for the evening, with narration provided by Walter Cronkite. The program for the evening noted, “Van Cliburn’s commitment to American-Russian cultural relations is most noteworthy for its endurance, its sincerity and its depth. He has shown both nations that we can and will live in peace and harmony. He has proved that music and culture have no boundaries.” The award on behalf of the Foundation was presented by the first ladies of both countries. |
